• Photography Workshop - Landscape Photography - Blea Tarn

As landscape photographers, we all have that one favourite location that we return to year on year and Blea Tarn in the Lake District National Park is certainly one that fits that category.

Nestled in the beautiful surroundings of Little Langdale at an elevation of 183 meters above sea level on the one-track road that leads from Little Langdale to Great Langdale, Blea Tarn has everything you would want to make great photographs of the Lake District. This little hanging valley was formed during that last glaciation of the area and is flanked by Wetherlam and Swirl How to the south and by Lingmoor Fell and Pike O Blisco to the north.

If you wanted to choose a single location in the Lake District that offers everything that a landscape photographer would need to occupy themselves for a day (many months actually!) then Blea Tarn would be that place. The Tarn itself boasts some of the very best views of the Langdale Pikes from anywhere in the Lake District National Park, and if the winds are light, you are rewarded with a mirror reflection of the mountains in the Tarn, guaranteeing a spectacular photograph.

On the lakeside, there are wonderful arrangements of glacial rounded boulders making for multiple compositions with the mountains towering in the background and there is woodland aplenty consisting of both mixed deciduous and pine forest. From the southern edge of the lake lies a little river beautifully named Bleamoss Beck that gently cascades down the valley and eventually reaches Little Langdale Tarn. In short, there are few places better to improve your landscape photography than Bea Tarn. During the workshop, we will work with you on composition, exposure and also the use of filters in all the different environments this area has to offer.

You will receive plenty of hands on one to one tuition from our leaders who have been photographing this area for many years. The day will conclude with an image review where you will share what you have taken and we will offer further tips on how to refine what you have learned on the day.
