This one-day workshop will be based at Rye Nature Reserve which is situated just outside the beautiful town of Rye which dates back to the 14th Century. Rye Nature reserve is a triangle of land that is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is a mosaic landscape of many different habitats through which are paths that lead to the edge of the coast.
Rye beach consists of both shingle and sand and changes rapidly as the tides change. If the tide is high the sand is covered and the waves rise and retreat back to sea over the shingle. As the tide retreats this gives way to large open areas of pristine sand banks. One of the most fascinating aspects of this area is the extensive display of groynes which have been weather and wave-beaten and offer a vast array of photographic opportunities.
As photographers, we often capture small moments in time as our camera shutter is open for a fraction of a second. Now with the introduction of extreme neutral density filters we have the ability to slow things down and enable the camera to capture light over a long period of time.
This one day photography workshop is aimed at showing you both in-camera and compositional skills to make amazing ethereal photographs using this technique. Rye was chosen specifically for this workshop as it holds many great subjects for long exposure photography and you will receive plenty of hands on, one to one tuition from Phil who has photographed here many times before. The day will conclude with an image review where you will share the images you have taken and Phil will offer further tips on how to refine what you have learned on the day.
