Making The Print

As photographers, often our main aim is to share our work with others. We dedicate time to getting out there with our cameras and explore whatever genre that inspires us, but the ultimate aim is to finish this journey with a finished image, and often, a finished print that we can be proud of sharing. The other online courses we offer target differing stages of the image journey and image creation and now we have designed this comprehensive course that will teach you the critical steps and techniques you need to complete this journey which is certainly a topic in itself.

We have been teaching printing for over a decade and seen many examples of the pitfalls these final stages can present to a photographer at the very moment they are keen to make a print. As we all know, the cost of making prints is a sensitive issue with the associated cost of media and inks so we have set out an all-encompassing way of helping you achieve the very best from your finished image and get it to your printer with the least amount of disappointment.

During the course we will break down the individual steps that will set out an easy way to navigate this often technical and confusing final stage of making a wonderful finished image.

This ten-day interactive course is tailored to help you wherever you live and has been carefully designed to simplify this subject and enable you to be more confident at understanding each stage necessary to making exhibition quality prints. Using a combination of to-the-point videos and online group sessions we will be here to help you. Topics covered in detail are;

  • Image refinements for print
  • Understanding colour space
  • The roll of ICC profiles
  • Resizing images for output
  • Understanding sharpening
  • Soft & hard proofing
  • Choosing the right media
  • Using paper profiles
  • Fine art black and white printing

ONLINE COURSE STRUCTURE

You will be provided with a range of detailed videos and other learning material to follow at your own pace and in your own time. The amount of time you dedicate to this is entirely up to you as you will have access to the material long after the course has concluded.

The course will commence with an hour-long group online discussion where we will set out the path for the coming weeks and provide you with your access to the learning materials. We will hold a mid-course group session to talk over any challenges or progressions you have made and we will be on hand to demonstrate any of the techniques in the videos. At the end of the course we will once again hold an hour-long group session and wrap-up session.

During the course we will have two online presentations with discussion on choosing and assessing media and print problems and how to overcome them.

All of the online group sessions are recorded and shared with the group and additional reference material.

You will receive by post (UK only) a trial pack of A3+ Epson Signature Worthy Media for you to use during the workshop.

Although the course has a fixed date, your study does not. You will be able to access the learning materials long after the course completion date and we are also flexible if people cannot make the group online sessions. They are all recorded and shared afterwards. If your course involves 1 to 1 sessions we can work around your availability which does not have to be within the course dates.

Whilst this workshop will be focused on Epson printers, the techinques and consdierations are equally valid for other makes of printer and will still offer many advantages even if you send your imagess out externally to be printed.
