Developing Photographers, Not Just Images
Article
Every photographer encounters challenges that are specific to their own work, whether that is improving image editing, refining a portfolio, preparing for a distinction, understanding printing, or developing confidence in the field. Our one-to-one consultations provide focused support tailored to a specific photographic challenge or objective that you might have.
Unlike our Photographer Development Assessment, which is designed to evaluate where you are in your photographic journey and identify future directions, one-to-one consultations are intended to help you address a particular area of photography where you would benefit from expert guidance.
Sessions are available online via Zoom or in person by arrangement and are delivered by either Michael Pilkington FRPS or Paul Gallagher FRPS.
Examples include:
• Image editing and interpretation
• Editing with intent
• Developing an efficient editing workflow
• Image reviews and constructive feedback
• Composition and field craft
• Exposing with the finished image in mind
• Printing and presentation
• Book creation and sequencing
• Portfolio development and curation
• Website reviews and visual consistency
• Distinctions and photographic qualifications
• Specific photographic projects or challenges
If you have a particular area you would like help with that is not listed above, please get in touch.
Initial Conversation
We begin with a complimentary 20 – 30 minute discussion to understand your requirements, objectives and the specific area where you would like support.
This conversation also allows us to determine whether a one-to-one consultation is the most appropriate option, or whether a Photographer Development Assessment, mentoring programme or cohort workshop may be a better fit.
Personal Proposal
Following the discussion, we will recommend a programme of support tailored to your needs.
This may involve a single one-to-one session or a series of sessions delivered over an agreed period of time.
We will outline:
• The objectives of the consultation
• The proposed structure and timescale
• Any preparation required
• The associated cost of this
As a guide, a two hour 1‑to‑1 session over Zoom will cost £195.
Delivery
Sessions are then delivered according to the agreed plan, with practical guidance, feedback and discussion focused entirely on your specific objectives.
Where appropriate, we may suggest exercises or activities between sessions to help reinforce learning and accelerate progress.
Is This Right For You?
One-to-one consultations are ideal if you:
• Have a specific photographic challenge you would like help solving
• Want expert guidance tailored to your own photography
• Prefer individual rather than group learning
• Wish to work at your own pace
• Want focused support without committing to a longer mentoring programme
