Scotland Winter Wilderness
When the winds bring the winter temperatures and the snows arrive, there are very few places in the UK that can offer better landscape photography light and conditions than the far north west Highlands of Scotland.

In the winter months the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands are arguably at their finest, frequently bathed with transient light, passing showers and snow-capped mountains. For this reason we are offering a very special tour to the remote north and west of the Scottish Highlands to allow you to enjoy peaceful beaches, brooding mountains and the remote flow country in their winter cloak.

With pick up and drop off available from Inverness station and airport getting to this winter wonderland will be refreshingly simple so you can relax and prepare for our time together photographing in some very special locations reflecting the diversity of the landscapes of the far northwest.

Leaving Inverness we head northwest and the vast mountains of Wester Ross will soon be visible as we head towards our first base in Ullapool. From here we will explore some of the beautiful coast and woodland of Wester Ross as well as venturing into the equally spectacular areas of Coigach and Assynt with towering peaks like Suilven and the diminutive Stac Pollaidh. With lochs and mountains never far from our side we will take time to explore the many photographic opportunities, enriched by the winter light.

As we head further north into the wilderness of Sutherland we will take time to visit some of the most beautiful bays and beaches to be seen. With the roar of the mighty Atlantic as our soundtrack we will have plenty of time to make special images of some very special places. As we reach the most northerly coast of the mainland we will then head inland to enjoy the very different landscape of the flow country.

Here the landscape changes as the deep peat mass, dotted with bog pools will spread out before us, accompanied only by the occasional peaks disrupting the horizon. As we head back to Inverness we will traverse the very different Northeast coast and, if time permits, stop to make one or two final images on what we are sure will be a very special tour.

For this workshop you will be in the capable hands of Mark Lawrence who knows both the area and landscape photography very well. Mark has been travelling to Scotland for over 40 years and will share his love for, and knowledge of, the landscape throughout the tour, being available at all times to provide as much hands-on 1−2−1 tuition as you need to help you get the most from this photographers’ paradise.
