Learn From The Experts - Mastering Infrared Image Editing
Whilst black and white photography is about enticing the viewer into seeing the world about them in an entirely different way, infrared photography takes that journey a little further still. When we see the world in black and white, we can to some degree imagine the tones the colours would produce, but the tones in infrared would be of even more of a deviation from reality.
Led by Aspect2i founder Paul Gallagher a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, the course focuses not on shortcuts or presets, but on seeing, interpreting and refining images
with intent.
Who is this course for?
This is a highly interactive, small-group course built around your images. You will work on your own files during guided editing sessions and see live demonstrations using a range of images and approaches.
You will see how experienced photographers think through editing decisions.
You will explore different interpretations of the same file, and why they work differently.
You will receive constructive, thoughtful feedback in a supportive environment.
Groups are deliberately kept small to allow time for discussion, reflection and individual attention.
What you will learn
This workshop is about changing your mind on how you see the world enabling you to see beauty in infrared tones of grey and showing you ways to express your vision of black and white infrared. Even if you have been exploring black and white infrared before, we want you to delve deeper into the soul of the photographer and free up new ways of making creative images using this unique medium. It is this expression of vision and creativity that we will explore during our time together.
A supportive and inspiring environment
This is not a competitive workshop, nor is it a passive one.
Learning happens best when questions are encouraged, uncertainty is discussed, and different ways of seeing are respected.
We will have image reviews and we want you to express yourself in any way you choose and share this with the viewer. We will talk about individuality and the way you want your work to look, and it is these skills that we will harness to enable you to become and an infrared artist.
You will be challenged, but never rushed or compared.
The structure of the workshop
The meetings will take place between 4pm and 6pm GMT, Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week. For each meeting we will be sharing techniques of processing group members individual images and each session is recorded and shared with the group. We will not be able to process everyone’s images during each session, so if you are unable to attend, we will process your images during sessions that you can attend.
We will be working with your existing library of images so there is no need to go out and get new images during this workshop.
Paul Gallagher will be with you throughout this workshop to encourage and work side by side on your infrared vision, image interpretation and print making. This will not be a workshop that will see the group dashing about from one location to another, but a workshop where taking your time to contemplate what you are photographing and consider how you would want the finished image to look and ‘feel’ like is imperative.
Our aim
This course is about helping you understand your own infrared work more clearly, so that your edits support your way of seeing and produce the best possible results.
If you are willing to slow down, question your habits, and engage thoughtfully with your images, this course will help you continue moving forward.
